General Surgeons |
A surgeon is a Doctor of Medicine(MD) who specializes in
the treatment of surgical patients. General Surgery is a surgical specialty
dedicated to the management of a broad range of diseases. A General Surgeon
receives 9 years of medical training after completing undergraduate studies.
He then must pass the two part comprehensive examination for certification
by the American Board of Surgery. After completing at least two years of
active general surgery practice, application can then be made to become
a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). The applicant must
submit a list of operations performed as well as analysis of the outcome.
The treatment modalities practiced by a General Surgeon vary somewhat depending
on the needs of the patients in the community and the background and skills
of the surgeon. Most General Surgeons perform Gastrointestinal operations,
breast operations, anorectal operations, hernia repairs, laparoscopic and
open operations for gallbladder, as well as other operations. Dalton Surgical
Group’s surgeons practice includes but is not limited to the following
surgical diseases:
- Gastrointestinal disorders that require operative and/or laparoscopic
evaluation and treatment
- Anorectal Conditions, e.g., bleeding and hemorrhoids
- Breast diseases, benign and malignant
- Endocrine diseases (including Thyroid, Parathyroid, Pancreas)
- Advanced laparoscopic techniques for the treatment of gallbladder
disease, hernias, splenic diseases, hiatal hernia (GERD), and other
gastrointestinal diseases
- Vascular diseases (including aneurysms, blocked arteries, and stroke
prevention
- Benign and malignant lung/chest diseases
- Trauma surgery
- Benign and malignant skin lesion
